Career Transition & Outplacement

At SHK we take a skilled and sensitive approach to helping individuals involuntarily departing an organisation. Redundancy creates a uniquely stressful situation for both the affected person and the organisation's managers. SHK services are therefore designed to assist both the organisation's managers and the departing employees.

For the organisation's managers we:
  • Provide advice on strategy and timing
  • Assist with communication
  • Train managers in delivering the termination message
  • Give 'on the day' counselling support
  • Assist with change management and recommitment
  • Provide regular feedback and reporting on results
For departing employees we:
  • Provide immediate counselling support
  • Establish rapport and set immediate priorities
  • Ensure that financial advice and any medical issues are addressed
  • Introduce the participant to the SHK office suite
  • Monitor partner and family issues
  • Introduce a comprehensive and detailed assessment process utilising the latest psychometric tools to help the participant to understand their competencies, values, managerial style, interests, motivators and personal needs
  • Utilise the insights gained to create a detailed career plan and establish practical goals
  • Create focused, attractive and, above all, 'selling' resumes
  • Explain the workings of the job market and train the participant in formal application and networking techniques to best access both the formal and hidden job markets
  • Train the participant in all aspects of job search skills including interviews, cover letters, use of the internet, consultant management, referees and professional online networking
  • Offer direct advocacy by senior SHK recruitment consultants
  • Ensure regular Adviser meetings to provide critical support through the inevitable ups and downs of the job search
  • Provide specialist advice as required on self employment, directorships and portfolio careers
  • Introduce participants to personal networks
  • Help with package negotiations
  • Assist the participant with on-boarding to their next role and provide any ongoing mentoring required
We treat each participant as a unique case. SHK programs are flexible and tailored to meet the individual's special needs. While the primary focus is to achieve early re-employment, we provide our participants with life-long insight and career management skills.
