SHK's Assessment SuiteUsing our collective experience in assessment-based psychology, career coaching, executive recruitment and outplacement services, SHK has selected the most commonly used and most rigorous and predictive tests of intellectual ability, combined with the most robust and broad based personality measure, and the most helpful interest inventories and questionnaires as the basis of our suite of assessment products. SHK is not restricted by the use of proprietary products, preferring to select the tools that will meet the needs of each individual. The Australian Psychological Society has developed guidelines to ensure psychometric instruments are chosen and used correctly by qualified users. These include the administration of tests under controlled conditions, telling people which tests they will be taking in advance and providing preview or practice materials. We believe that adherence to ethical standards in using psychological tests is important to protect and preserve respondents' rights, and ultimately, to ensure successful use and acceptance of such tools. SHK has incorporated these guidelines into our guidelines for the ethical use of tests and questionnaires. A sample of our recommended assessment tools and providers follows: Raven’s Progressive Matrices are widely regarded as the world’s leading tool for measuring fluid intelligence: the innate problem-solving ability that makes sense and meaning out of complex or confusing data. The Raven’s Progressive Matrices are designed to assess a person's intellectual and reasoning ability and the ability to make sense of complex data, to draw meaning out of ambiguity and to perceive and think clearly. Each of the problems within the Progressive Matrices is presented in the form of a sequence of symbolic figures, rather than being word based and to this end, overcomes cultural and language bias. The subject is required to understand the nature of the relationships within each sequence and select one figure which completes each sequence. By so doing, the subject demonstrates the degree to which a systematic method of reasoning has been developed. The term "Progressive" within the test's name refers to the fact that the problems within each of the test variants become progressively more difficult. The Australian Council for Educational Research is one of the world's leading educational research centres. It is committed to creating and distributing research-based knowledge, products and services to improve learning across the lifespan in both formal and informal settings. ACER is one of only a few developers and publishers of psychometric materials where on-going development of norms to ensure currency and application of tests is a key priority. ACER provides the verbal reasoning measure and numerical reasoning measure. These two tests are commonly used in psychological assessment for selection purposes. SHL are amongst the world leaders in the science of psychometrics in the workplace. Their products have become industry standards, for example the OPQ has been in use since 1984 and continues to be a world leader today. Since its foundation, SHL has designed and packaged over 250 objective assessment tools. These comprise tests, questionnaires and other instruments to measure the performance of people in the workplace. SHK have selected the best of these ability tools to provide candidates with an opportunity to complete ability tests that are likely to be used in many executive recruitment selection processes. These are the tests of verbal critical reasoning and numerical critical reasoning. The test of verbal critical reasoning is a higher order measure of verbal reasoning and assesses the capacity for logic and deductive reasoning, the ability to use both deductive and inferential reasoning as a problem solving tool, and the ability to effectively use the English language in the analysis of written material. Job competencies relevant to this measure include influencing and negotiating skills as well as proficiency in verbal debate and argument. The test of numerical critical reasoning is a higher order measure of numerical reasoning and assesses numerical competence at an analytical rather than computational or arithmetic level. Job competencies relevant to this measure include the capacity for complex problem solving of a quantitative or statistical type, the capacity to process a high volume of data from both connected and unconnected sources, and the capacity to understand quantitative relationships and complex issues by means of applying mathematical principles and models such as that required in analysing and setting forecasts and budgets. CPP Asia Pacific states its primary focus as contributing to the productivity and profitability of their client organisations, whilst enabling individuals within them to grow and develop personally. They accomplish this by providing a good range of reliable and valid psychological instruments. Test results allow the following attributes to be examined in a full psychological report:
CPP Asia Pacific also publish the BarOn EQ-I Instrument, which measures ‘emotional intelligence’. Emotional intelligence reflects the ways a person interacts with and applies their knowledge to daily life. Broadly speaking, emotional intelligence addresses the emotional, personal, social and survival dimensions of intelligence. Emotional intelligence is concerned with understanding oneself and others, relating to people, and adapting to and coping with the immediate surroundings to be more successful in dealing with environmental demands. |
