Julie is specialist advisor to SHK’s Education practice.
After a career as a CEO in public and private sector organisations, Julie co-founded Braithwaite Steiner Pretty (BSP) Executive Search in 1997 which was then sold to global executive search firm Odgers Berndtson in 2013. Julie and her co-founders remained with the global firm in very senior national and international strategic leadership roles.
Concentrating on major public institutions over a 23-period, Julie created and led Education, Public Sector, Health, Research and the Cultural sector Practices.
In addition to leading the Australian Education Practices in those firms, she became the Global Head of Education for Odgers operating across nine international jurisdictions to ensure coordination of national and international search across Higher and School education, EdTech and commercial education.
Julie has led the search to appoint Vice-Chancellors and senior academics in many of Australia’s and New Zealand’s most prominent universities over the past 20 years, and has placed Chancellor, CEO and Board-level positions widely across a range of private and public sector institutions.
Julie’s career prior to executive search included leading organisations in the publishing and media industries.
Julie retired from executive life in 2020 and was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in the 2020 Australia Day Honours List.
