About the Role

Reporting to the Vice-Chancellor, the Chief Advancement Officer will shape and lead Deakin University’s entire advancement portfolio, encompassing philanthropy, alumni engagement, and advancement operations. As the University prepares to launch a major Campaign in late 2025, this pivotal role will set the strategic direction for Deakin’s fundraising and engagement initiatives, fostering a culture of transformational giving that advances the University’s vision and impact. Leading a high performing team, the appointee will personally manage a portfolio of principal donors, partner closely with academic leaders to identify and develop fundable priorities, and ensure the systems, people, and processes underpinning advancement are world-class.


About You

You are an accomplished advancement leader with significant experience securing principal and major gifts, ideally within higher education or a similarly complex mission-driven environment. You bring a deep understanding of philanthropic trends, alumni engagement, and the strategic levers that drive sustainable growth. A persuasive communicator and trusted collaborator, you excel in engaging diverse stakeholders, from donors and alumni to academic and community partners. With a track record of leading and inspiring high-performing teams, you combine strategic insight with analytical acumen to deliver measurable results and enduring relationships.
