World-class Jewish museum
Preserving history to inspire change
About the organisation
The Sydney Jewish Museum gives history a voice through collecting, studying and exhibiting historic objects, preserving the memory of the Holocaust through commemoration, and educating students and the public. Its mission is to challenge visitors’ perceptions of morality, social justice, democracy and human rights. Central to its activities is its large student education program.
About the role
Reporting to and working collaboratively with the Board, the CEO will inspire new thinking and lead the museum through a changing environment, ensuring it continues to meet the needs of future generations and a post-Holocaust survivor era. Driving the development of the Museum’s strategic vision and direction, the appointee will increase museum visitors, memberships and donors, and promote excellence and innovation in its programs and exhibitions. A focus of the role will be continuing to optimise the experience for visitors of all ages, faiths and cultures.
You are a proven and authentic CEO with a track record gained leading a cultural organisation with large teams of staff and volunteers. Deeply knowledgeable about the latest local and international museum trends and digital innovation, you demonstrate outstanding skills in strategic planning and implementation, and business growth. You possess the emotional intelligence and empathy to interact sympathetically and constructively with Holocaust survivors, and are adept at managing a diverse range of stakeholders. Results-oriented and financially competent, you are an engaging, progressive and values-based leader, with the customer centricity, passion and gravitas to carry the Museum’s mission into the future “where history has a voice”.
