About the organisation
The Department of Health and Human Services works to achieve the best health, well-being and safety for all Victorians. The Housing Division of the Department provides a dedicated portfolio focus on housing, and best-practice leadership for project delivery across housing and human services portfolios, including social housing initiatives.
About the role
The Director Commercial Development will partner with community housing associations, investors, developers and government agencies to develop and assess commercial models and funding partnerships in support of Victoria’s long-term social housing growth. Core responsibilities include the translation of policy and budgetary outcomes into commercial structures, with a key focus on modelling, feasibility and risk assessment, and financing. This includes negotiating arrangements for land transactions and development, and ensuring delivery models reflect best practice in social procurement and governance. As a senior executive within the Housing Growth and Commercial Development Branch, the Director Commercial Development will build and lead a high-performing team in order to quickly scale in line with the Victorian Government’s landmark social and affordable housing investment.
You are a highly regarded senior commercial leader with extensive experience in commercial deal structuring, negotiation, financial analysis/modelling, and deal completion. Your expertise encompasses tax, legal, and financial aspects, preferably with a good understanding of property development in a residential context. You have a well-developed understanding of financiers and financial markets, and are well networked across the sector and within the Victorian Government. As a leader you build high-performing leadership teams with a delivery-oriented ethos. Tertiary qualified in finance, business, law or a related field, you are a natural commercial influencer with the ability to gain buy-in and support from a range of stakeholders while building strong working relationships. You relish the opportunity to apply your commercial professionalism and end-user focus to make a real difference to people’s lives.
