About the organisation
The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) is tasked with ensuring that Victoria has the right conditions to enable economic growth, while delivering liveable, inclusive and sustainable communities. DELWP brings together planning, local government and infrastructure, environment, climate change, energy and water functions to ensure an integrated approach to the development of long-term State and regional strategies. One of the major challenges for the department is to maintain Victoria’s liveability with a population that is expected to almost double by 2050, while responding to climate change and protecting our natural environment, infrastructure and heritage for future generations.
About the role
The Director, Places and Precincts and Director of Planning Projects will both play a significant role in shaping the overall strategic direction of DELWP’s Planning Implementation Division, including overseeing the implementation of Plan Melbourne and government priority projects including the Distinctive Areas and Landscapes program. Working closely with the project delivery team, the division’s leadership group and the Executive Director, the appointee will ensure all aspects of these projects (including scope, deliverables, governance, resource management and reporting) are delivered in a successful manner. The Director, Places and Precincts and Director, Planning Projects will advise the Deputy Secretary and relevant Minsters on the progress of projects while proactively identifying and highlighting strategic risks or potential issues in a timely manner.
Tertiary qualified in planning or a related field, you have senior executive level experience, preferably within the public sector. You understand political decision making, governance, accountability and performance in complex organisations, and have extensive experience in delivering both policy/reform related projects and complex projects that will significantly impact on organisational objectives. Naturally focused on customer service and collaboration, you build high performing, capable and customer focussed teams to deliver outstanding planning initiatives. Your advice is frank and fearless, and you demonstrate both high-level critical thinking skills and a willingness to challenge the status quo.
