About the organisation
The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) is tasked with ensuring that Victoria has the right conditions to enable economic growth while delivering liveable, inclusive and sustainable communities. The Department brings together Victoria’s planning, local government and infrastructure, environment, climate change, energy and water functions, to ensure an integrated approach to the development of long-term State and regional strategies that build on social, environmental and economic opportunities to provide for future population growth and change.
Located within the Planning Group of DELWP, Planning Panels Victoria provides a process to independently review planning scheme amendments, development proposals and environmental effects inquiries through the consideration of submissions, the conduct of hearings and the preparation of reports. This could be through a Panel, an Advisory Committee, or an EES Inquiry.
Planning Panels are advisory and make recommendations, with the final decision made by the Minister for Planning and/or responsible statutory body (local Council, Victorian Planning Authority, other state agency).
About the role
Reporting to the Chief Panel Member, the Senior Panel Member plays a key role in promoting and delivering innovation and service excellence. Key responsibilities include chairing public hearings, managing teams and projects, preparing written reports, and investigating and deliberating on diverse and complex planning and legal arguments. This includes liaising with a range of critical stakeholders including the community, local Councils, and representatives of proponents and State Government.
You are tertiary qualified in planning, law, architecture, urban design, environmental science, or a related field, with deep knowledge of land use planning concepts and principles. With a thorough understanding of the Planning and Environment Act 1987 and other related legislation, you are adept at leading high-performing customer-focused teams and forming strong working relationships with various stakeholders.
The Senior Panel Members are appointed for five-year terms.
