With its access to capital and systematic methodology for forming and developing fast growth startups, the organisation is perfectly positioned to take advantage of breakthrough technologies as they emerge. PVL works closely with universities to form, or assist in the formation of, spin-out companies based on world-leading innovation.
The University of Melbourne is a globally engaged, comprehensive, research-intensive university. Consistently ranked among the leading universities in the world, it is uniquely positioned to respond to the major social, economic and environmental challenges of our time. It is home to the largest cohort of research students in Australia, investing more than $1B in new research each year. The University’s Advancing Melbourne 2030 strategy prioritises a renewed focus on research impact and commercialisation.
About the role
The Venture Creator will lead the identification, assessment and development of business ventures from across the University of Melbourne’s research community. Leveraging the combined capabilities of PVL and the University and supported by both organisations, the Venture Creator will identify credible opportunities across the University’s research portfolio, and play a lead role in forming and incubating start-up organisations from inception through to capitalisation and growth.
You are a highly accomplished commercial leader with proven experience in building and leading one or more spinout organisations (ideally within medtech, agtech, biotech or a related sector). Your market-proven commercialisation expertise allows you to identify and critically assess opportunities, shape deal flows, and build and lead early stage fast growth startups through to commercial success. Highly credible in both business and academic contexts, you are intellectually curious and relationship-driven by nature, with an entrepreneurial spirit and drive. Critical to your success in this role will be your ability to build authentic and trusted relationships with academics and researchers across a range of scientific and technical domains.
