- Victoria and South Australia regional disability employment and community services provider
- Drive culture, strategy, and growth in a values-led environment
- Create lasting social impact
About the organisation
Founded in 1989 to support people with disability into meaningful employment, are-able (formerly WDEA Works) has grown from a small Warrnambool-based initiative into one of the leading community-focused organisations across Victoria and South Australia.
With over 400 staff, are-able delivers employment services, training programs, social enterprises, and community initiatives — all designed to help people of all abilities thrive.
As a community-based not-for-profit organisation, are-able channels funding back into regional communities through the are-able Foundation and specialist support programs.
For three decades, are-able has been actively extending its support to local communities, enhancing the well-being of individuals through employment, education, and fostering connections.
About the role
The Chief Executive Officer will lead are-able into its next chapter of growth and impact, shaping culture, strategy and performance across a diverse and values-driven organisation. Reporting to the Board and based in regional Victoria, the CEO will drive strategic execution, strengthen internal capability, and oversee operations across employment services, training, social enterprises and community programs. As the organisation’s key ambassador and decision-maker, the CEO will foster strong Board relations, lead a committed executive team, ensure financial sustainability, and represent the organisation externally with authenticity and purpose.
About you
You are a seasoned and visionary executive ideally with leadership experience as a CEO/Executive within the non-for-profit, government, or community sectors sector. Commercially astute and values-driven, you bring a proven track record of leading complex organisations through growth, transformation, and impact. You are highly skilled in governance, finance, strategy, and operations — and just as passionate about people, with a reputation for building inclusive, high-performing teams and strong stakeholder relationships. A compelling communicator and collaborative leader and deeply committed to purpose, equity, and community. You relish the opportunity to lead a respected, purpose-led organisation committed to improving lives and strengthening communities.
