  • Foster social harmony and inclusion in Victoria
  • Partner with communities and government to deliver strategic, systems-led change
  • Drive long-term positive outcomes for multicultural and multifaith Victorians

About the organisation

The Victorian Multicultural Commission (the Commission) advocates for Victoria’s culturally, religiously, and linguistically diverse communities. Established in 1983, the Commission provides independent advice to the Victorian Government, shaping policies and services that support multicultural communities. Acting as a bridge between government and communities, the Commission fosters social harmony and inclusion, particularly in times of unrest. It promotes the cultural, social, and economic benefits of multiculturalism and influences systemic change to remove barriers and promote participation in Victorian life. The Commission works closely with government departments and agencies, multicultural organisations, and community leaders to build a more inclusive Victoria.

About the role

As a Commissioner, you will play a key role in driving change and strengthening outcomes for diverse communities. Working collaboratively across the Commission, you will provide expert, strategic advice to government on emerging priorities within the multicultural sector. You will actively engage with diverse communities, fostering inclusive and harmonious inter and intra-cultural relationships. You will build and maintain strong partnerships with key government stakeholders, departments and agencies, and leverage these partnerships to be responsive in the face of live community issues and to collectively drive long-term priorities. Representing the Commission across government and public platforms, you will lead participation and engagement in consultations, events, and advisory meetings.

About you

You are a passionate advocate for multiculturalism with a deep understanding of Victoria’s diverse communities and relevant career experience. With expertise in community engagement, you excel at fostering collaboration across different cultural and faith groups to promote social cohesion. Your proven executive leadership skills enable you to influence structural change, build strong partnerships with areas across government, and navigate complex community issues. You communicate effectively across diverse audiences and are confident in public forums. Committed to integrity and inclusivity, you bring strategic thinking, stakeholder engagement expertise, and a dedication to supporting multicultural communities through policy, advocacy, and meaningful partnerships.
