About the Committee

The Victorian African Communities Committee (VACC) is a key advisory group to the Victorian Government, supporting the implementation of the Victorian African Communities Action Plan (VACAP) 2018–2028. The Committee brings together individuals of African heritage from across Victoria to provide advice on issues that matter to their communities. Members work closely with the Department of Premier and Cabinet to ensure that government programs and policies reflect the lived experiences, priorities, and aspirations of African Victorians. The Committee includes a Chair (a Member of Parliament), two Community Deputy Co-Chairs selected from within the group, and up to ten community members.

About the Role

As a member of the VACC, you will help shape government responses to the needs of African communities in Victoria. You’ll attend four meetings each year, share insights from your community, and provide feedback on government initiatives. Your advice will help guide the delivery of programs under VACAP and influence broader government policy. Members receive sitting fees and reimbursement for travel and other approved expenses.

About the Person

We are seeking individuals who are passionate about community advocacy and connected to grassroots African organisations or networks. You will bring well-developed communication skills, a good understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing African communities in Victoria, and the ability to work collaboratively with others. Whether your experience is in social services, education, business, health, or another field, your lived experience and commitment to community will be highly valued. This is a unique opportunity to be a voice for your community and contribute to meaningful change at a state level.
