EMERITUS PROFESSOR KAREN STARR

Karen Starr is a Partner specialising in executive appointments across education and other people focused sectors. Her professional experience includes University Professor and Chair, K–12 school principal, Chief Statewide Curriculum Writer, Company Director and author. Recognised as a global authority on education business, Karen has conducted independent research for international governments and delivered keynote addresses to major education forums worldwide. She brings deep expertise in leadership, education business, curriculum, governance, equity and organisational learning.

Karen holds a PhD, is Fellow of the Australian College of Education and Australian Council for Education Leaders, Advanced Graduate and Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and contributes to education through advisory, mentoring and editorial roles. Her governance experience includes 19 years as company director in the mutual banking sector, international advisor for the Association of School Business Officials International Board (headquartered in USA) and currently, the VET Development Centre Board.

Karen has received commendations throughout her career including National Telstra Business Woman of the Year (NFP), Educator of the Year (Australian Council for Education Leaders, VIC) and Vice Chancellor’s Award for Teaching Excellence. Deakin University Council conferred the title of Emeritus Professor in acknowledgement of her distinguished academic service.
