About the organisation
Respect Victoria was established under the Prevention of Family Violence Act 2018 as a statutory authority. This organisation is dedicated to the primary prevention of family violence and violence against women for all Victorians. It provides statewide leadership, working collaboratively with stakeholders to create social, institutional, and community change. Accountable to the Minister for Prevention of Family Violence, Respect Victoria serves as an independent voice, providing evidence-informed guidance to government and gathering data to monitor trends and impacts over time.
About the roles
The Board governs Respect Victoria, providing strategic oversight to ensure the organisation fulfils its statutory responsibilities and strategic direction. Members are accountable to the Minister for Prevention of Family Violence and are responsible for ensuring robust corporate governance, financial stewardship, and risk management. The Board will contribute to the development and implementation of the strategic plan, annual business plan, and budget. The Chair provides leadership to the Board, manages the relationship with the CEO and key government stakeholders, and represents the organisation publicly. A key focus for the incoming Board will be overseeing the development of Respect Victoria’s next long-term strategic plan and supporting the organisation to deliver Respect Ballarat, a high-profile Victorian government primary prevention initiative.
Respect Victoria has a staggered approach to Board membership renewal. Accordingly, there are both three-year and 18-month terms available.
About you
You have experience in a governance capacity, with expertise in areas such as financial management, risk, law, or management of corporate or community bodies. You combine this with a strong understanding of gender equality and the primary prevention of family violence and violence against women. Your experience includes strategic planning, high-level decision-making, and effective stakeholder engagement. To ensure the Board reflects the community it serves, applications are encouraged from people of all genders and diverse backgrounds, with a particular focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander representation.
For the Chair position, you have extensive experience leading a board, advanced communication skills for diverse audiences, and the capability and willingness to be a public face of the organisation. As an active member of the Board, you will contribute to Respect Victoria’s efforts to build a Victoria free from violence.
