  • National support organisation for community foundations
  • Strategic and operational leadership opportunity
  • Shape the future growth of community philanthropy

About the organisation

This national organisation is a key catalyst for community philanthropy across Australia. It works to connect and strengthen a growing field of local organisations that empower communities to address complex challenges and shape their own futures. By fostering collaboration, collective action, and systems leadership, the organisation plays a crucial role in building the infrastructure required for sustainable, community-led change. As communities face unprecedented pressures from climate change, inequality, economic disruption and weakened social ties, community philanthropy offers a powerful vehicle for building resilience and driving lasting change from the ground up. This organisation has a vision for community philanthropy across Australia to be connected and regenerative, and help create a just, bright future for all.

About the role

Reporting to the Board Chair and leading a motivated team, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) provides strategic leadership and operational management for the organisation. Responsible for the execution of the strategic plan, overseeing finance, operations, and people and culture, a key function of the role is to act as the public face of the organisation. This includes building and maintaining relationships with community organisations, philanthropic funders, government, and other peak bodies to advance the enabling environment for community philanthropy. The CEO will work in close partnership with the Board to ensure excellence in governance, manage risk, and guide the organisation through its next phase of growth.

About you

You are an experienced CEO or senior executive with a growth track record, and a background in community, philanthropic, social, peak body or other relevant sectors. Your experience encompasses strategic leadership and operational management including finance, risk and governance. You have a demonstrated ability to grow and diversify revenue while building, leading and empowering high-performing teams, and fostering a positive, inclusive culture. With an understanding of community-led development, philanthropy and systems change, you are adept at building and growing relationships with diverse stakeholders, including funders, members, field networks and government. Experienced in working effectively with a Board, you excel in funding, fundraising, budgeting, and financial reporting. You are collaborative and adaptive, with a strong commitment to equity, and the ability to manage a rapidly changing and growing organisation. Your deep understanding of community-led development and your passion for community outcomes will see you enable community philanthropy to thrive.
