 About the organisation

Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) is the state's primary career fire and rescue service, established on 1 July 2020 and operating across metropolitan Melbourne and Victoria's major regional centres. FRV employs more than 3,500 operational career firefighters and approximately 540 corporate and technical staff, operating across 85 fire stations statewide. The organisation's mission is to keep Victorian communities safe through expert fire and rescue services, systemic advocacy for built environment reform, and community fire prevention education. FRV continues to build on a legacy of more than a century of fire and rescue service in Victoria.


About the role

Reporting to the Executive Director Corporate Services, the Chief Information Officer (CIO) is responsible for delivering a comprehensive, whole-of-organisation technology agenda aligned closely to FRV's operational mission. Leading a team of approximately 120 the CIO will develop and implement IT strategy, enterprise architecture, and information architecture to meet both immediate and long-term organisational capability requirements. A central priority is strengthening FRV's cyber security posture through a comprehensive strategy aligned to Victorian government standards, alongside embedding robust IT governance frameworks to mitigate enterprise risk. The CIO will establish a structured IT business partnering model to improve engagement between the IT division and the broader organisation, whilst driving a culture of continuous improvement and customer-oriented service delivery. Collaboration with key sector stakeholders, including the Department of Justice and Community Safety, Emergency Management Victoria and the CFA, is an important dimension of the role.


About you

A proven CIO (ideally across multi-sectors) you hold a relevant tertiary or postgraduate qualification in information technology, computer science, systems engineering, or a related discipline. You bring deep expertise in IT strategy, enterprise architecture, and change management within complex, regulated mission critical environments. Your understanding of cyber security - including ISO 27001/2, the Essential Eight, and contemporary threat mitigation - is matched by relevant professional credentials such as CISSP, CISM, CISA, or CRISC. You are experienced in implementing IT governance frameworks and have a demonstrated ability to build effective business partnering models that connect technology functions to organisational strategy. Your communication and influencing skills allow you to engage credibly with executive leadership and diverse stakeholders, translating complex technical concepts into clear, actionable insights. A governance qualification such as the AICD Company Directors Course will be well regarded, as will your commitment to values-based leadership and inclusive workplace culture.
