About the organisation

The Commission for Children and Young People (CCYP) was established under the Commission for Children and Young People Act 2012. Led by the Principal Commissioner, the objective of the CCYP is to promote continuous improvement and innovation in policies and practices relating to the safety and wellbeing of children, and the provision of out-of-home care services. The Commissioner, Aboriginal Children and Young People is appointed on the recommendation of the Minister for Children to ensure a particular focus on promoting the self-determination of Aboriginal children and young people, and safeguarding their rights.

About the role

The Commissioner will be a collaborative leader, contributing to leading the Commission and providing independent advice to Ministers and government departments regarding policies and services relating to the safety and wellbeing of Aboriginal children. The Commissioner also monitors and reports on the effectiveness of relevant strategies and supports the Commission’s advocacy function as it relates to Aboriginal children and young people.
