  • Lead a newly established asset performance function
  • Australia's largest local government
  • Keep Brisbane moving toward the 2032 Olympics

About the organisation

Brisbane City Council (BCC) is Australia's largest local government by population, managing total assets exceeding $44 billion and an annual budget of over $4.1 billion. Public Transport Services (PTS) is one of the largest bus operators in Australia, operating a fleet of over 1,250 buses that carried more than 70 million passengers in the last financial year, alongside ferry, e-mobility, and personalised public transport services. PTS sits within BCC's broader mission to deliver safe, sustainable, and connected journeys for the people and visitors of Brisbane, and plays a direct role in meeting the city's social, environmental, and economic objectives. With the 2032 Brisbane Olympics and Paralympic games on the horizon, the organisation is focused on building the analytical and operational capabilities needed to meet increasing public and network requirements.

About the role

Reporting to the General Manager, Engineering & Asset Management, the Director Asset Performance – Public Transport leads a newly formed team of 25 staff, four direct reports, and an $18.5 million budget. As asset performance is a new enterprise function within PTS, the Director is accountable for establishing it as a strategic centre of excellence. This includes setting the overarching maintenance frameworks for the bus fleet, leveraging asset system insights to address performance gaps, and steering the organisation’s shift from reactive practices to data‑driven, whole‑of‑life asset stewardship. The Director will design the KPIs and analytical models that link depot‑level activity with fleet‑wide reliability outcomes across the business. Operating in close partnership with the Vehicle Maintenance, Engineering & Technical teams, the role functions as a peer and integrator rather than an auditor – influence, credibility, and leadership presence are as critical as technical depth in long‑tenured operational environments. Over time, the remit will extend to encompass asset performance analytics for other asset classes including Brisbane Metro charging and depot infrastructure.

About you

You are a senior leader with advanced capability in asset performance management, reliability‑centred maintenance, and data‑enabled maintenance strategy. You excel at drawing meaningful insight from ERP and asset management platforms, building analytical pipelines, and converting complex datasets into strategic planning and operational decision‑making. Your experience in lean process methodology enables you to identify structural efficiencies and uplift performance within existing budget settings, without relying on additional resources. You are experienced in leading change within complex, long‑established operational environments, underpinned by strong interpersonal credibility and cultural awareness. You are an accomplished people leader, able to develop a large specialist team while influencing stakeholders across the broader enterprise. Your ability to communicate effectively across diverse audiences from frontline technical staff to senior elected officials – reflects the judgement, nuance, and stakeholder capability required in this environment. Tertiary qualifications in engineering or a related discipline are advantageous, as is postgraduate study in a complementary field.
