Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) is at the forefront of protecting lives, property and the environment across Melbourne and Victoria’s major regional centres. With 85 fire stations and a dedicated team of over 4,000 professionals, FRV delivers rapid, expert responses to fires, complex rescues, medical emergencies and hazardous incidents. FRV shapes safer communities by influencing building standards, driving systemic change, and empowering Victorians through education and resilience programs.
About the role
The Director Risk, Assurance and Governance provides strategic leadership and oversight of FRV’s risk and assurance framework. Reporting to the Executive Director Strategic Services, the role is accountable for driving continuous improvement across internal audit, enterprise risk management, and business continuity. The Director will also oversee committee governance to enable agile decision making through robust processes and compliance, embedding a risk-based culture and to underpin resilience and systems that align organisational standards.
About you
You have significant senior leadership experience in risk management, assurance, and governance, supported by a relevant postgraduate qualification. Your background includes leading large, diverse teams, ideally within emergency services, government, or similarly regulated environments. You offer an excellent understanding of internal audit and business continuity principles and a mature approach to improving enterprise risk management. With highly developed communication and influencing abilities, you have demonstrated experience leading governance functions and providing oversight of committee frameworks and processes. Your will shape systems that anticipate challenges, embed assurance and empower FRV to deliver on its critical purpose with confidence.
