About the role
Reporting to the General Manager, Engineering and Asset Management, the Director Vehicle Maintenance provides strategic and operational leadership for a network-wide maintenance function spanning eight depot locations and a specialised central workshop. This critical senior leadership role commands a $36 million annual operating budget and directs a workforce of approximately 350 personnel with twelve direct reports. Beyond overseeing core maintenance, servicing, and capital improvement programs, the incumbent will champion a comprehensive transformation agenda. This program is designed to modernise operations, elevate data integrity within the asset management framework, and foster a mature, contemporary safety culture. As a key leader within the organisation, this role requires sophisticated stakeholder management and seamless collaboration with senior levels across Council. The successful candidate will bring a demonstrated history of driving overall performance improvement and leading complex transformations within large-scale fleet, transport, or heavy industrial environments.
About you
You are a senior executive with extensive experience steering large‑scale, multi‑site mobile fleet maintenance operations. Your defining strength is enterprise leadership and cultural transformation – you create trust and alignment on the workshop floor while shaping direction and priorities at the executive level. Your approach to safety is disciplined and strategic. You embed compliance through culture and apply practical expertise with zero‑harm methodologies and lockout/tagout frameworks. You set clear performance expectations, develop leaders through coaching, and engage directly in constructive performance dialogue. You bring strategic familiarity with reliability‑centred maintenance principles and a record of unifying systems and standards across multi‑site environments. Tertiary qualifications in maintenance, manufacturing, or commercial repair are highly regarded. This is a site‑based leadership role that demands a visible, influential presence across all depot locations to strengthen culture, optimise performance, and drive operational improvement.
