Diocese of Ballarat Catholic Education Limited (DOBCEL) is the governing body for Catholic schools across the Diocese of Ballarat. Established in 2021, DOBCEL oversees the operation of 56 primary and secondary schools, educating almost 13,500 students. This organisation ensures strong governance, stewardship, and compliance with state and national standards. About the role

Reporting directly to the Executive Director (CEO), the Assistant Director of Finance is the most senior executive responsible for the effective leadership, governance, and operational oversight of DOBCEL’s finance function. This role plays a critical part in supporting organisational success through strong financial controls, transparent reporting, and continuous system and process improvement. As a key member of the Directorate team, the Assistant Director of Finance acts as a trusted advisor to leaders across the organisation, strengthening financial literacy by providing reliable financial information, expert advice, and assurance to enable informed decision‑making. The role enables strategic leadership across core finance functions, including financial operations, budgeting, payroll, compliance, and performance monitoring, with demonstrated expertise in statutory reporting, regulatory compliance, audits, and internal controls.


About you

CA/CPA qualified, you are a commercially agile and energetic senior finance leader with a strong record of achievement within a large or complex organisation, ideally a not for profit. You possess highly developed people‑leadership capability, with experience guiding multidisciplinary teams through organisational change, service improvement, and capability development. A lateral thinker, you can design and deliver multi‑year finance and system‑improvement strategies, acting as a respected partner to senior leaders and ensuring strong governance, transparency, and financial stewardship across the organisation. Flexible and adaptable, you enable leaders to make informed decisions through accurate financial analysis, clear reporting, and sound risk management. A commitment to, or a willingness to work within, the mission and vision of Catholic education is required.
