  • Victoria’s leading voice for business
  • Shape culture, capability and transformation
  • Influence strategy, leadership and organisational performance

About the organisation

The Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) is Victoria’s leading independent business organisation, representing more than 100,000 businesses ranging from sole traders and entrepreneurs to some of the state’s largest enterprises. A trusted authority across workplace relations, training, international trade, work health and safety and policy advocacy, VCCI plays a critical role in shaping the economic and commercial future of Victoria.

The organisation’s influence extends beyond advocacy. Through Committee for Melbourne — Victoria’s leading urban policy and business leadership network — VCCI helps shape the future prosperity, sustainability and liveability of Melbourne, bringing together business, government and community leaders to influence the city’s long-term direction and success.

VCCI also delivers an important component of the nationally significant Apprenticeship Support Australia program, supporting workforce participation, employer capability and skills development across a large and diverse customer base. Together, these platforms position VCCI at the centre of business growth, workforce capability and economic development.

With an ambitious transformation and growth agenda underway, the organisation is strengthening its commercial capability, member experience and market impact to ensure it continues to deliver meaningful value to Victorian business and the broader community.

About the role

Reporting to the COO and working closely with the Chief Executive and Executive Leadership Team, the General Manager, People & Culture will be a key contributor to VCCI’s next chapter — shaping the culture, leadership capability and organisational design required to deliver its Destination 2030 strategy.

You will influence at the highest levels of the organisation, partnering with executives and leaders to drive transformation, build organisational capability and embed a high-performance culture. From embedding AI in the workforce strategy and leadership development to change execution and talent planning, you will lead initiatives that strengthen performance, accountability and engagement across the business, making VCCI a great place to work.

The role requires both strategic influence and operational credibility. You will lead a broad people portfolio spanning business partnering, employee relations, performance, learning and development, wellbeing and workplace safety. You will role-model the introduction and practical embedding of AI into how work is done, continually identifying smarter, more effective ways to improve capability, decision-making and organisational performance.

This is an opportunity to leave a genuine imprint on a respected and evolving organisation at a pivotal moment in its journey.

About you

You are an influential and commercially astute people leader who knows how to build trust, challenge constructively and lead through complexity. You bring a strong track record in organisational transformation, culture and workforce strategy, ideally gained within a dynamic or evolving mid-sized environment.

You combine strategic thinking with pragmatism and execution. Confident operating at executive and Board level, you are credible, resilient and highly relational, with the judgement to navigate competing priorities while maintaining momentum and alignment.

Importantly, you bring presence and AI skill and confidence. You are attentive to detail and know how to influence outcomes, inspire confidence and bring people with you through change. Your leadership style is authentic, adaptive and grounded, and you are energised by the opportunity to shape culture, capability and performance in a business with real purpose and impact.
