About the role
Reporting to the General Counsel, Industry Solutions and Projects Business Group (based in Shanghai), the Legal and Compliance Manager will provide commercial and practical legal advice across corporate, commercial, regulatory and governance matters. The appointee will be responsible for drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts, upholding standard terms and conditions, and ensuring compliance with Australian and New Zealand law and Nexans Group management procedures. The position also holds regional accountability for compliance activities, including maintaining the business risk register, identifying and communicating legal risks and data protection issues, providing competition law education and delivering compliance training across the business.
About you
Commercially minded and admitted as an Australian legal practitioner, you have operated at senior associate or special counsel level, and your experience includes working in a commercial publicly listed environment. This has involved extensive responsibility for contract management, ideally in the building, civil or construction sectors, demonstrating your confidence in engaging with technically complex projects in a commercial context. You have strong knowledge of Australian and/or New Zealand contract law and regulatory requirements, and are adept at providing clear, timely advice to stakeholders at all levels. Analytical, detail-oriented and pragmatic, you identify risk and translates these into workable outcomes rather than offering theoretical guidance. You relish the opportunity to analyse real situations to form solutions in consultation with internal stakeholders, and to play a vital role in helping a pioneering and sector-leading organisation achieve its strategy growth objectives across the Oceania region.
