The Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership (the Academy) is a statutory authority established under the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (the Act). An Australian first, the Academy is designed in response to Victoria’s unique education system context. The Academy is governed by a Board that includes members from the government, Catholic and Independent school sectors, led by Dr Toni Meath, Chair.

The Academy’s shared purpose is to create and offer evidence-informed professional learning programs, events and initiatives designed to take Victoria’s highly skilled teachers and school leaders from great to exceptional and advance the quality and status of teaching and school leadership. The Board sets the strategic plan to support achieving the Academy’s objectives, with CEO, Dr Marcia Devlin AM leading the organisation. In carrying out roles and responsibilities, the Academy Board remains accountable to the Minister for Education, who is accountable to Parliament and the community for the performance of the Academy.

The Academy are seeking three new Board Members, who are either:

1) A teacher or leader in the Victorian school system with a teaching background,

2) A commercially experienced professional with a demonstrated commitment to teaching and educational leadership, or

3) From a less represented cohort such as First Nations.

Applicants with limited governance experience, but the right attributes as outlined above, are strongly encouraged to apply. The Academy can provide support and development to ensure your success.

To be considered, you must submit a recent CV (4-5 pages preferred) that addresses the headings noted in the Key Selection Criteria, and your completed Application Form. The Application Form is used in place of a cover letter, you do not need to submit a separate cover letter. Please lodge your Application Form where it says ‘Cover Letter’ through the SHK application point. Please submit your resume in Microsoft Word format and the completed Application Form in Word or PDF.

— Your application will be carefully assessed as per the Key Selection Criteria. If shortlisted, you may be later invited to a Panel interview, you will be notified of the format to expect. We will advise candidates when decisions are made at different stages.
