- Nation-leading programs

- Reporting to CEO

The Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership is a new statutory authority established by the Victorian Government to deliver an Australian-first program of advanced professional learning for high-performing teachers in government, Catholic and independent schools, alongside a suite of teacher and leader professional learning offerings.

The programs provided by the new Academy, with eight locations across the state, will provide an opportunity for Victoria’s best teachers to remain in the classroom and receive additional development to become recognised as state-wide leaders in teaching excellence.

The Academy builds on the outstanding reputation of the Bastow Institute of Educational Leadership (Bastow). Established in 2009 as a branch of the Department of Education and Training, Bastow played a critical role in developing high-quality leaders at every level across the Victorian education system. The Academy sustains Bastow's focus on driving excellence in school leadership and extends this work to include teaching practice. It continues to work closely with the Department of Education and Training (DET).
