About the organisation
The Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Protection Peak (QATSICPP) is the peak body representing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families in Queensland’s child protection and youth justice systems. In partnership with 38 member organisations, QATSICPP advocates for culturally safe, community-led approaches to reduce overrepresentation in these systems. Grounded in self-determination and cultural authority, QATSICPP works to influence policy and practice through collaboration, knowledge sharing, and a focus on prevention, early intervention and family-led solutions.
About the role
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible for setting and delivering the organisation’s vision and strategic direction with a high degree of autonomy. The CEO leads financial performance, oversees a $9M+ budget, and drives income diversification while championing significant investment in the child protection sector to improve outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people, families and communities. Key responsibilities include leading statewide child protection reforms, legislative and policy advocacy, and partnering with government and stakeholders to deliver programs that reduce youth interaction with the criminal justice system. The CEO also leads a Centre of Excellence to build an evidence base of effective practices, represents Queensland and the sector nationally, and engages in high-level advocacy with government leaders and the media to progress Closing the Gap and the Safe and Supported First Action Plan.
About you
You are a highly experienced executive and bring a strong track record in strategic system and policy reform. Skilled in building coalitions, working with government ministers, senior bureaucrats and community-controlled organisations, you have a deep understanding of Australia’s social and economic policy landscape and its impact on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. With proven strategic direction, change leadership, and cultural development capabilities, you have strong governance expertise and experience supporting boards and executive committees. With high-level human resource acumen, analytical strength and excellent public speaking skills, you are a dynamic and inspiring leader who consistently delivers results through a strategic and values-driven approach. You foster high-performing teams, champion innovation, and balance strategic execution with bold, forward-thinking initiatives.
