About the organisation
Austin Health (AH) is one of Victoria’s largest health care providers servicing Melbourne’s north-eastern corridor, including diverse multicultural and veteran communities. Care is provided across three campuses, including the Austin Hospital (incorporating the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre), the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital and the Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre as well as providing care in the community and at home. About the role
Reporting to the General Counsel the Senior Legal Counsel (SLC) will provide the Austin Health Executive and staff with timely access to authoritative legal advice on commercial contracts and research related matters. The SLC will support the Office of Research in delivering on Austin Health’s strategic vision to be a national leader in research and teaching. This includes provision of proactive legal services to support strategic partnerships and collaborations, intellectual property management and commercialisation, research governance, funding arrangements, policy implementation and interpretation and related agreements, risk management and compliance.
About you
You are an experienced and talented lawyer preferably with a background in healthcare and medical research, either in private practice or in-house in a major health service or research institute. With an excellent understanding of commercial law and intellectual property, you provide practical and timely legal advice and exercise sound judgement in complex time critical environments. You are results-oriented, engaging, and energetic with the gravitas, intellect and passion to drive change. Collaborative in style with well-honed people and stakeholder management skills, you relish a challenge and the chance to influence Austin Health’s vision to be a national leader in research and teaching.
